Budapest has been awarded the rights to stage the 2018
United World Wrestling (UWW) World Championships.
The Hungarian capital, a candidate to host the 2024 Olympic
and Paralympic Games, was chosen to hold the flagship
competition.
It will mark a swift return to Budapest for the Championships,
with the event last held in the city in 2013.
Budapest was also selected to stage the 2017 Under-23
England have won the right to stage the 2021 World Cup, the
Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) has announced.
The Rugby Football League (RFL) received the nod ahead of
the United States, largely on the back of playing numbers and
heavy government backing.
RLIF chief executive David Collier said: “England staged an
outstanding World Cup in 2013 and have clearly outlined their
European Wrestling Championships, one of the governing
body’s newest competitions.
They are currently preparing to host this year’s Non-Olympic
Weight Wrestling World Championships, due to take place
from December 10 to 11 at the SYMA Sports and Conference
Centre.
Budapest is also due to stage 2017 World Championships for
both judo and swimming, as well as the 2019 World Table
Tennis Championships.

The RLIF has recommended the United States be awarded
the 2025 World Cup, along with a separate international
tournament to be staged between 2021 and 2025.
