I
n the last two issues of Touchline we have been
following the progress of Deanna Kyriazopoulos,
an up and coming Taekwondo champion with huge
potential for the future. Deanna is one of the aspiring
young athletes sponsored by Sportscover as they strive
to become world and Olympic champions. In the midst
of her Year 12 work and exams, Deanna has continued
to compete in international events, winning several
medals! Here with an update on her achievements is
Deanna’s blog.
I am currently in Croatia where I just competed in the
Croatian Open Senior division and I just won a bronze medal,
which is an amazing effort on my part as I am still a junior.
I won my first fight against Poland, my quarter final against
Belgium and I lost my semi final 10-9 to Brazil just missing
out on the final. This was a great achievement personally
for me to know I can match it with the world’s best. This
was in the -46kg division. Next week I will be moving on to
compete in the Paris Open in the -49kg division. This is a
difficult division but I will give it a go and gain more valuable
experience against some of the world’s best.
A couple of weeks ago I won Gold at the Oceania Club
Championships in the -49kg division. This competition was
open to all athletes within the Oceanic region and was an
important win for me especially defeating New Zealand who
I had lost to at the Pacific games in the final. The final of this
competition was against Australia's under 49kg Australian
representative and after defeating her, I realised that the sky
is the limit. If you put your mind to a goal it can all can be
achieved.
The 2015 Australian Taekwondo National Championships
were held in Adelaide in October and I was fortunate to win
Gold in both the junior and senior division.
As mentioned earlier, I am travelling at the moment, carrying
my text books and catching up with my assignments for
school between training sessions. Still excited that I just won
a bronze medal, I need to focus on my HSC for next year as
my achievements in life are all dependant on the efforts that
I give.
